Quiet Radiance is a functional sculptural candle holder that transforms through use. Formed from layered, blackened mild steel, its landscape-like silhouette takes inspiration from the phrase 光而不耀 (guāng ér bù yào)—”quiet radiance”—with the characters subtly embedded into its contours, revealing themselves only from certain angles. Eight candles rest at varying heights across the terrain, allowing light to emerge through the structure as the flames burn lower, creating an ever-changing interplay of shadow, glow, and flowing wax. Inspired by the philosophy of shan shui (山水画), the work evokes mountains, rivers, and the quiet rhythms of nature, inviting warmth, reflection, and shared moments while bringing sculptural presence into everyday living.

Kaiyi Wong (also known as unrealitykai) is a Malaysian designer, artist, and founder of Unreality Studio, a Kuala Lumpur-based practice working across sculptural lighting, large-scale installations, and collectible design. Trained in architecture with a Master of Architecture from the University of Sheffield, his practice is defined by exposed structural connections and industrial materials, reinterpreting Chinese-Malaysian cultural forms through a tectonic approach. Notable works include Moonlit Dragon at Kwai Chai Hong and What Holds the Glow at Core Design Gallery. Through Unreality Studio, Wong creates moments of quiet disruption—using light, material, and structure to reveal the extraordinary within the everyday.
